Antique dining table and chairs
14 March 2024
Description

My mother is wanting to sell her dining room table and chairs. Unsure of the wood used. She said she and my father purchased the table unfinished in the late 1970’s for $1200. It has a crank used to separate the ends for inserting the leaf. The leaf is darker in color because never used. The chairs were purchased separately. She said they were told they were Georgian and they paid $4500 for 2 arm chairs and 4 side chairs. She had the seats recovered. I see no markings on any of the items and she cannot find the papers from when purchased.

Hi Jennifer,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The market for reproduction (ie, not made in the 18th or 19th century but imitating styles originally then) is quite soft - in many cases, people selling at auction get about 1/10th the prices they purchased things at originally.
